These three powerful c’s are ever-present, and if we’re not careful, we might miss out on the magical song they’re weaving. This is what Latissua “Tish” Barnhardt, a minister, teacher, author, and lover of God’s word, wants the world to be aware of, in her book Testaments from Survivors: Women Healed and Whole (Volume 2).
We might lose the best changes in our lives because of a choice we didn’t make or a chance we didn’t take. After all, life is about grabbing the reins and navigating through the thicket. Life only eludes us if we don’t take action.
With that in mind, let’s go ahead and talk more about the concept of choice, the role of chance, and the dynamics of change that make our lives worth living or a dreadful existence!
The Concept of Choice: Understanding the Decision Making Process
In philosophy, choice refers to the purported capacity for free will in selecting an option. A logical extension of the conventional understanding of free will is choice. It’s comprehended as the alleged ability or capability of people to act or decide without reference to any past occurrence or condition of the cosmos.
Making decisions involves deciding what to do, getting information, and weighing your options. This process is known as decision making. When we make decisions, our mental processes—which are impacted by memories, emotions, reason, and biases—help us create judgments and select courses of action.
The idea that humans possess free will is supported by the act of decision-making alone. Our free will lets us use life’s three c’s to our advantage. After weighing the advantages and disadvantages of our decision, we deal with the fallout.
Making the correct decisions is essential to living a successful and happy life. Our decisions shape our life’s journey, which can either bring us closer to our objectives or further away from them. Making the right decisions increases our happiness, prosperity, and productivity.
The Role of Chance: Role of Luck in Life and How Chance Shapes Our Opportunities
Chance is the word used to describe how likely something is to happen. Either words or percentages and numbers can be used to describe it.
Among the three c’s: choice, chance, change, chance is the unpredictable element in the mix. But even though it’s an inconsistent variable in our lives, we must embrace uncertainty and how chance shapes our opportunities.
We can slowly welcome chances and opportunities in our lives by:
- acknowledging the thoughts, emotions, and sensations we experience
- breathing slowly
- creating space for the uncertain things coming our way
- deciding to allow uncertainty to exist in our lives
- engaging in what is most important to us
If chances or uncertainty bother you, you may learn to live with them. By putting your knowledge and abilities to good use to benefit people around you, you become more resilient. You will then see great chances and opportunities amidst the unpredictability and uncertainty of chance.
The Dynamics of Change: Applying Change Management
People’s strong sense of conscious or unconscious control over the status quo or present circumstances is disrupted by change. As a result, individuals going through a transition frequently experience dread and uncertainty.
Understanding the dynamics of change will help us learn how it influences development, growth, and ways to adapt to it. The dynamics of change include:
- People will experience discomfort, unease, and self-consciousness
- Initially, people concentrate on what they must give up
- Even if everybody is experiencing the same transition, people will still feel alone
- Humans can only adapt to so much change
- Individuals vary in their degree of preparedness for change
- People will worry about having enough resources
- Take the strain off, and people will go back to what they did before
And the best ways to adapt to change is to:
- Accept the change
- Stay positive
- Get a fresh perspective
- Focus on the things you have control over
- Set new goals
- Stay connected to people
Change will never be easy. It’s why taking the brave step and knowing the right time to leave a marriage is an extremely difficult thing to do. But change is, more often than not, for the better. So remember to pray to God and trust His process.
